One Down, Two to Go

Short story: Trail marathon, done. Time: 7:02. Long and lonely, except for half of loop three when Eric ran with me - it was his last loop, I had one more to go. Beautiful course, the rain held off, and a wonderful angel of the forest, Marie, held down the lone aid station for hours. We saw her twice per loop and she was always a welcome sight. So were Lesa, Bill, Val and the huckleberry pancakes once per loop. New shoes and testing Drymax socks...sorry to report I came out of it with five or six blisters. I'm not sure if it was the shoes or the socks. On the one hand, my old trail shoes always gave me blisters and my feet would ache. The new shoes are much more supportive and felt good, but I still got blisters. Bummer. I'm not exactly sure how I will manage them for tomorrow. Right now, an ice bath is in my future, followed by blister care. Wish me luck for day two!

Hi There,

This is Bob with Drymax Sports. I'm sorry to hear about your blisters. I would like to try to get to the bottom of your blister issue because with very few exceptions we have the opposite effect on feet than you are experience on this initial outing.

Please contact me so we can discuss... bob@drymaxsports.com .

We take people's feet very seriously and want you to be comfortable on a long run and I sent you these socks to try to make your runs more enjoyable.

I do have a few questions for you: Which socks did you wear? How many times have you worn the shoes? Did you use lubricants? If so, this will clog up the fibers. Did you wash these socks? If so did you use fabric softener? If so, this will clog up any performance fabrics...

Thanks! Don't give up on us yet, I really think we can help you... We really do care about making the best sock possible to eliminate foot issues.

You are so inspirational!

Seriously, reading your blog has planted the seed in my mind to run my first 26.2 in the spring. Thanks for sharing your adventures! I look forward to reading about days two and three.

Best of luck with the feet - you'll have such a story to tell in the end.
Can't wait to read all about it!

You'll give that a lot of thought before the "Ghost" tomorrow.

Hey Michelle, hope your tooties are feeling better now after some rest. See you tomorrow at the Ghost. I'll be taking an earlier-early start to try and finish the 50k (with an option to bail at the marathon point if needed.)

Heal up!

Nice work! The huckleberry pancakes sound delicious! I haven't had those in years. Sorry about the blisters. Keep me posted on those socks. I haven't bought any yet, but I still need to get some new ones.

Good job Michelle! You will do great. Blisters are the worst though. I found that duct tape helps me out.

Michelle, you could have fooled me with your blisters, you ran the Ghost as if you didn't have one already under your belt! I was happy to run with you and the rest of the mad monkeys - it was a wonderful way to spend a few(well a little more than a few) hours on a beautiful saturday in seattle. I hope the Seattle marathon went well for you today - I can't wait to hear all about it - again, congrats you 5 star marathon maniac - you did it!
