Postcard from Verdi

We're here in Verdi, NV at Jimmy and Suzy's house. I picked Rob and Steve up at the airport today while Eric was up at Squaw Valley getting his medical check and signing in. The three of us drove straight there in time for the big pre-race meeting. We saw a few people we knew, and sat in the shade for a while listening. Once it was over, Eric and Steve went back to Verdi, Rob and I made a grocery run - apparently I had too many "healthy" foods in the car for tomorrow and not enough "snack" foods...

Back at the house, the four of us talked the plan through. We have everything packed and the car race-ready. Now it's just a matter of getting us out of the house in the morning - did I mention the time? 3:00 am we head for Squaw Valley.

Suzy cooked another wonderful meal of homemade spaghetti sauce, mizithra cheese and browned butter with angel hair pasta, salad and bread. Jimmy provided a batch of his signature margaritas. The rest of us provided the appetite.

Eric is heading off to bed soon, the rest of us will be up a bit later, then hit the rack too. I'll report back on Monday!

I'm following Eric's progress and I am surpised at how nervous I am about it. I can't imagine the energy that you, Rob and Steve are feeling.
I look forward to reading about the race adventures and I am sure I will hear a lot when I pick up Steve and Rob at the airport. It is lonely without Steve here, but I'll share him for such a worthy cause.

Michelle, Eric is one lucky dude for having a loving, caring, and supportive wife.

Crewing is tough. My crew and I spent weeks going back and forth on email talking mostly about care of the crew. We had very little discussion on where the crew would meet me. Glenn has crewed Scott Jurek about a dozen times at WS, Badwater, the Spartalthon, etc., and he crewed me 6 times at CCC (yes - I DNFd my first attempt). We brought blankets and sleeping bags for the track. Unfortunately, they didn't really have to use them because I got in so late. We also brought post race food 'cause we knew it would take some time before they started servinig breakfast. It all takes experience, either someone elses and/or yours. Now you're ready for the next times Eric runs this one.
