Recovery Week

Recovery is going remarkably well. As previously reported, I have no major issues or pain. Stairs are fine. It's almost scary. I don't know how I could be so tired and how my legs could ache so much after the run on Sunday and then feel fine on Monday. Amazing! Maybe there is something to this whole Maniac concept of "you're trained for it, just keep going".

I ran a flat and easy 4.6 with Rob yesterday, where I got to hear all about him teaching his first lesson. I ran another 4.6 this morning on my own. Tomorrow I'll teach Pilates again, then spend my day in a chair interviewing job applicants (I've already been put on a hiring committee for a specific position). That will end up being a good rest day. I'm thinking 5 and 8 for my weekend runs, then an increase in mileage next week - hopefully around 35 miles for the week, then it'll be taper time again.

I haven't come up with a post-marathon plan yet. I've got my eye on a set of four marathons for next spring, and have actually signed up for one of them. I don't have a plan for December through March though. I'll be looking for some races for sure. I can't remember if I mentioned it here or not, maybe it was in our run club forum, but I'm not going to attempt any summer marathons. My heart doesn't handle heat well, and I don't want any set-backs, so I'm going to err on the side of caution. I think I lucked out with Haulin Aspen this year - it never got as hot as predicted. I might try to find a couple early morning halfs (halves?) though. That's a long way away, I'll figure it out then. For that matter, I probably don't need to worry about heat because it'll probably still be raining!

It's because, no matter what smart books say, the more you do, the better body adapts. Look at Van (or Dean Karnases or Sam Thompson).
It si also because we are not at the level elite runners are - they are pushing the limits at the edge of human capacity, we are pushing at the edge of OUR bodies capacity. Difference.
Another couple of weeks, and we'll have a new Maniac:)

Whew, can't wait for my body to "adapt" to more. What a process! Four spring marathons? Girl, you will need the summer off from racing. :)
Cheers to not being sore after a long race or run! That just recently started happening to me and wow, is it nice!

If you mean club member, Olga, that's true. Anyone who runs back to back to back marathons so quickly has to be a "maniac" before running. LOL.

I'm with you on the summer long runs. I just poop out too quickly.

If you want there are many fat ass runs in the winter. One that I am thinking of is Capital Peak Mega Fat Ass near Olympia. You can do the 17 mile run or do it twice for 34. Be prepared for any weather!!! The top of Capital Peak can be brutally cold. But you are only at the top for a bit. It is only $3 and loads of fun. Fun to be out in the forest and get nice and muddy and be out with friends. John and James mark it real well so getting lost is not an issue. And when you finish, a nice warm fire awaits. Homeade soup most every time also. Glad your recovery is going well!

Doesn't it feel great to be so fit? : ) Don't take it for granted. But it sounds like you are taking care of yourself well. I'm sure the Pilates is a great compliment to your running. Enjoy your recovery/taper!

Hope the interviewing goes well. I was at the Y this morning and almost crashed your pilates class, but decided I was too lazy to do so.

I'll see you tomorrow.

Good news all around, Michelle. I'm impressed.

Isn't it fun planning a new year's worth of races??

Hope you didn't use the question "If you were a vegetable, what would you be?" in the interviews...a bad sign to the interviewee :-)

I wonder if your Pilates aided your recovery. It's make me eager to take it up again, given your great results.

Your dedication to fitness will definitely keep you going and has to improve your health situation.

I laughed when I read that you have no winter "plan" - I am sure there is something formulating in your sub-concious none the less. You are too much of a maniac to not have a plan!!

I love that photo with the city in the background. You seem to be doing very well for just having finished another marathon.
