A Social Whirlwind

Whew! I'm almost glad the weekend is over! I need some rest...

Saturday was hot - it was already 58 degrees at 7:00 am, and I heard the temps rose 10 degrees in the next hour, eventually hitting about 95 for the high. We went out for a regular Saturday run with the running club, which I found difficult. We went five miles at a normal clip, but, as is usual for me, the heat was giving me fits. My heart rate monitor would beep in the sunny spots, beep on any little hill, then drop in the shade. I'd been feeling kind of off since the Thursday night run, which was also warmer than usual. We didn't get any time to acclimate - it was cool and misty one day, then hot and humid the next. I finished the run feeling worn out and a little nauseous.

After coffee, I got to go work at the preschool carnival. Now, that was fun! Plus, it was in an air-conditioned gym. They assigned me to the cake walk. I'm such a soft touch, I couldn't stand it when a child didn't win. I encouraged everyone to keep going around till they won a cake. I might have even peeked at the numbers now and then to facilitate the cake-winning. I'm thinking they'll assign me to a different game next year. And, I should mention, they weren't really winning cakes, they were winning cupcakes. Didn't seem like the best idea to hand full size cakes over to preschoolers. I saw more than one leave the gym with all the frosting licked off!

I rushed home from the carnival so Eric and I could head to Steve and Lorri's house for Sydnee's college graduation party - yay! She's on to more studying though, as she begins her Masters. From there, Eric, Cat and I went to Starbucks. We had a little time to kill before the next event: Barb & Ed's Annual Hat Party. This party is the social event of the year!

Now, Cat has princess aspirations too, but she had a problem. Her tiara was broken. So, after coffee, but before the party, we had to find her a new tiara. Eric joined us in our shopping, offering sage advice as to the sparkle factor. Once that mission was accomplished, we stopped back at our house to pick up Cat's car. She and I had an entrance to make:

Party Princesses

I know it looks like we are headed for the local parade in Cat's flashy car, but in reality, we were headed to the next neighborhood. Music blasting "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun", we made a drive by so we could thrill bystanders with our princess waves.

Barb throws an excellent party, complete with dancing. Y Run Club members Marco, Abi, Cat, Tom, Phil and I were tearing up the dance floor. Barb dropped in for dances when her hostessing duties allowed, and Eric dropped in and out all night. We finally called it a night at 11:45. Eric and I walked home - it was a warm and starry night, and a lovely walk.

The next morning we were up and in Tacoma bright and early for the next run. Our late night had both of us feeling a bit sleepy, but running is a great waker-upper. Another leisurely coffee with the gang, then home for a shower and a nap. A little catch-up around the house and yard, then I had to go to a Sunday evening board meeting (yes, it is unusual, and hopefully, a one time event) for the preschool.

All in all, another fun and busy weekend.

Here are a few more pictures of the Tacoma City Marathon and one last shot of Web:

Maybe one of these years I will actually make it to Barb's party. Nice running with you on Saturday. It's nice to run with the group.

You gals look so spiff in your tiaras! And nice car too. I really like the new photo of Web. We have an accordion too but Donn plays it (even though he got it for my birthday one year). I'd love to hear Web play some day! Rest up from all your socializing!

You and Cat look like naturals in that convertible. You've got the beauty queen wave down too.

And thank you for letting every child feel like a winner at the carnival.

Sounds like many of us that were not racing, were certainly having fun socially. What a fantastic weekend with friends, good food, and a sprinkling of running! :D

Oh, you two are darling in your tiaras and hot car. Ouchiemama! Sounds like you had an outstanding weekend, aside from feeling a little heat defeated on your run. Argh, that sounds uncomfortable, Michelle!

So do tiaras qualify as hats? Just wondering
