One of those Weeks

Last week was one of those weeks. It started with a snow day on Monday, which was nice because I got to cancel my Pilates class and go back to bed. That extra two hours was much appreciated after running the YT50K on Sunday. I also took Tuesday off running to sleep in. I felt well rested after those two days and managed to end my week at a respectable 53 miles.

Work was and is wild right now - too much on my plate, mostly put there by me, some by circumstance. It's going to be a stressful February and March, but then it should all settle down. In the meantime, I'll be looking to running, Pilates, friends and Eric to keep me on an even keel. I'm just going to say that sometimes being the coordinator of the program is more reponsibility than I want - it makes me long for the good old days of working a little and homeschooling a lot! Since I can't go back in time, I guess I'll just take each challenge as it comes and give it my very best shot.

I did have a fun day today though - Eric, Rob, Jenny, Jamal and Steve headed up to run the Lord Hill 50K. I stayed home and joined the running group for a leisurely run at Pt. Defiance - one of my favorite places to run. That was followed by a delightful hour and a half at coffee, then home to clean up, eat and catch a quick nap. Then Lorri (who also happens to be married to Steve, who was off running with Eric, who happens to be married to me) and I got to try out a Reformer - a cool piece of Pilates equipment. Lorri teaches the other Pilates class at the Y, and we love to get together and refine our skills. Well, today was more about building skills - I'd been on a Reformer once a few years ago, and Lorri had never been on one. We went to one of the other Y's in the association to see what we could do. She brought a book of exercises and we worked together to figure them out. Most of the mat exercises we do are similar and that gave us a very good base for the Reformer. We had a lot of fun and we both expect to be sore tomorrow.

I'm hoping our weather settles down this week - no more threats of snow, no more icy roads. I've got a few runs, including the hill run, in my plans for the week and I'm hoping for ice-free roads to do them on!

Whew! I think some time on the reformer would do me some good. Sounds like a good day was had by both of us! Glad that you and Lorri were able to get together. Steve who happens to be married to Lorri ran like his shorts were on fire today. Something like a 5:24:00 on a very tough course. I'm sure he will be sore tomorrow.

Though for totally different reasons, I know what you mean! As usual, though, you have a great attitude about it. Let's hope we can keep that up, eh? :)
Also as usual, I'm so impressed by your mileage. Do you want to coach me? hehe

I am excited to try reformer soon too, I'll be a guinea pig for my friend Monika who is getting certified on it.
Keeping sane sometimes is hard:)

Appreciated your comment: YES! on all counts.

Your information about the Reformer was interesting. Would have been fun to see you 2 using it. Your accounts keep inspiring. My thank you.

You need help staying on an even keel? You seem like a pretty solid gal to me :-) That Pilates equipment looks like fun. I wish they offered that at my gym...

Ahh...a relaxing run at Pt. Defiance sounds much more fun then all these races every weekend. Don't let work get you down. Take charge and lead the way!

I hope work gets less manic!

Impressive mileage with 2 rest days!

Hoping that work settles down for you soon.

Wow, a Reformer ... that looks and sounds like something the Feds would use on Gitmo detainees. I'll stick to the outdoor stuff.

(Because I can do that here where it doesn't snow! :) )

Using the reformer was really fun. I could feel it in my arms slightly and my inner thighs. I thought my back might talk to me, but it didn't.

I told Steve I wanted a reformer and he just laughed at me. I also told him my favorite part was telling those ladies we were professionals and they shouldn't try this alone. I crack myself up.

Have a great week and breathe.

Be Free,
Lorri

What is it with distance runners who take on too much? I am envious of your snow day... and even more envious of your running.

Some time I'll have to take a class from you Michelle. I've only gone to pilates a couple times, but it was tougher than running. Sorry we missed you Sunday, but it sounds like you and Lorri had fun without your boys.

53 miles is more that respectable, especially considering the other stressors in your life.

Ditto on King Arthur's comment.

Geez, you ONLY got in 53 miles this week??

Just think, if you had gotten in 2 extra days, you could have had like 75 miles in!!!

;-)

Sounds like work is keeping you busy, but you're managing an awful lot of mileage and program coordinating with the run club events too. You're my hero! =)
