A Quiet Weekend at Home
The root canal wasn't bad at all - I was still numb enough from the first part of the day not to feel any of the shots, and the procedure seemed pretty easy. The endodontist warned me I would be sore - not the tooth itself, but my jaw and the tissues around it from the trauma of the day, plus the 10 or so shots I had. He was right. However, it is entirely manageable with a little ibuprofen. And, the good news is, it had no effect on my running.
I got about five in yesterday and five today. Both good, solid runs with great company. Eric left town Friday night to camp out, then run another 50K a few hours north. I stayed home and had a fun evening with Riley. We ate take-out teriyaki for dinner (tofu bowl for me) and watched the Transformers movie. Web and Riley used to love their Transformer toys, so it was fun to watch it together and chuckle about the memories. I spent yesterday afternoon cleaning out and organizing my part of the closet and a few drawers. I felt very productive and virtuous. Web called last night and we both enjoyed the chance to chat with him a while. He's been on an adventure since last May, traveling with friends and working at a couple of organic farms. He seems to be enjoying the experience and picking up practical skills. He's hoping to be home for Christmas for a couple of days.
Today we ran in Pt. Defiance, followed by the traditional coffee at Starbucks. Eric, Margaret and I walked across the street for breakfast after that, then Eric and I stopped at the running store so I could get new shoes. I love new running shoes! I'm looking forward to running in them this week, and to running in new shoes for the Ghost of Seattle marathon.
That's it! It's been a quiet weekend at home and I have enjoyed it.

Cleaning closets is virtuous. Why is that?
Happy for you that you are getting better from the tooth thing without further trauma.
New shoes are great, but it's even greater when you're able to run enough to wear out the current shoes. Don't wait another 20+ years to clean out the drawers. Remember, cleanliness is next to Godliness.
New and improved from head to toe.
Sounds like a relaxing weekend...except for the closet cleaning part! : )
I'd say new running shoes makes a root-canal much better!
Woohoo new shoes is always puts a boost to your running spirits!
A little retail therapy in the form of new shoes after a root canal sounds very sensible indeed!
I'm in awe that it didn't affect your running. Dental work takes the mickey out of me like there's no tomorrow. Good on ya!
I love closet cleaning and clutter eliminating, did it last weekend:) My root canal si not bad either, but still sore to bite on. Good for you on new shoes!
Eric is such a wonderful guy to buy you the new shoes, what a winner.
Glad your tooth issue went well, even better than you hoped.
Good luck with the marathon next week!!!
I've got a question about the Marathon Maniac application, do you submit your application and money "after"...in my case the 3 marathons in 90 days....or am I supposed to apply before I start the effort?
DH says "Cleanliness is key to happiness." (at least to him) :D
Glad everything went well with the nerves :-) A nice quiet weekend at home sounds like just the ticket... oh, that and a couple of 5 milers ;-)
Running shoes are always fun, but what only one pair ;-) Have fun at your marathon.
Your weekend was relaxing. I'm jealous. I really could have sent Steve and Bob over to camp in your front yard. You could have re-lived those memories of boys sleeping in a tent in the yard.
Be Free,
Lorri
This sounds like a near-perfect weekend (minus the residual root canal pain and Eric being gone). You deserve to "put your feet up" every so often. Nice work on the 50k the other day too. I'm finally catching up on my blog reading.
Yay for weekends at home and a root canal not interfering with running. You're the bomb (or whatever the kids are saying now).
So glad you had a pleasant time after all that.
