One Year Anniversary of the Marathon and Beyond

Look at this great message I found in our run club forum today:

Michelle and Sonja-
Happy 1st Marathon Anniversary! Remember one year ago today how much fun we had? Look how far Michelle has come and myself, who would have thought we'd run so many marathons. Sonja is running them too in spirit and is a fine crew. Michelle may have gone a bit overboard, but she's lovin' it! Way to go ladies!
Jenny

Jenny, Marathon Maniac #401, has run five marathons and one 50k since our first marathon on October 1 of last year. I didn't even think about today being the actual one year date - I kept thinking of Sunday as the one year mark because Portland was the first marathon for us. It's been quite a year. I mentioned a couple of posts ago that Sonya has had a rough year of injuries and hasn't been able to move forward like she had planned.

I've been able to stay mostly injury free, and I don't have young children at home, so I was able to get out and do a few more races than Jenny. My count for the year is 10 marathons and two 50ks. I'm not sure if I'll have a year like that again, but it sure was a fun experience.

Jenny and I have been working on a Y Run Club/Blogger dinner for Portland this week, and I've been working on some of our group's San Francisco plans. Between the two, I'm pretty excited! After we get through Portland, it'll be time to gather bloggers for SF. I'll also be meeting up with a former Y Runner there - a good friend who moved way far away will be in SF for the marathon. I love this!

Oh, and have I mentioned that Jenny, Rick and I have our own personal chauffeur, cheerleader and bag boy/slave for the weekend? Some of you know him as Eric...

Countdown to Portland is on!

Slave? I was going to swill beer and chase women....

I mean ahh, How may I serve you?

I'm so glad you were able to join the marathon fold. I look forward to helping out and actually watching the Portland Marathon.

Congratulations on your Maniac anniversary! It has been a year of accomplishments for you. Good luck in Portland. That's the same day as the Chicago and Twin Cities marathons. I'll send good thoughts your way. :-)

I hope I'll be able to meet you and Eric in San Francisco, although you sound like you'll be pretty busy. I'll send you an e-mail with my cell phone number.

Enjoy the slave, as I enjoy my slave.

Wow, where has the year gone? You have been a very busy woman, considering you started your new position at the college around the same time.

Keep up the good work, and have a great time in Portland and SF.

Be Free,
Lorri

TEN marathons? I knew they were many, but so many? And 50Ks on top of it. You are a Running Diva. Star Rider I called you once. I have to think of more names to do justice to your season of dreams.

Happy Anniversary! You've had a great year. It took me another year to run my second one. This Portland marathon is significant for me too because it was my qualifier for MM. Yay for us! : ) Are you hiring out Eric's slave labor? ; ) : )

What? You've only been marathoning for a year? Wow! You have had one amazing year. I am amazed at your abilities.

Enjoy Portland! I do hope the rain tapers off for you. It's been nasty lately. :(

Congratulations on your 1 year anniversary! I echo Olga's comment that your first year marathoning has been a full one. Nothing like going full steam ahead. You are very fortunate to run relatively uninjured!

Good luck in Portland, and may the PR Force be with you.

Also, take lovely full advantage of your slave!

Michelle, thanks a lot for your latest comment. I was indeed on medication for my run; I had taken a cough medicine just a few minutes before I headed out. That may explain the funny heart rate. Thanks for that.

I'm hoping to find out from our pace leader what expectations of us for the expo etc are at San Fran. I'm flying in late Friday night and expect I will be working the expo Saturday. We should be easy to spot there as Nike will have us all decked out. Hopefully if I can't find you before the race I will find you after! I fully expect to be out cheering once I get my pace group in (As long as I don't have any other pacer duties).
