Maybe, just maybe...

Elizabeth's post hit the nail on the head today. I've got a bad case of FOMO (fear of missing out, the acronym is thanks to Rob). I had already mentioned to Eric that I was tempted to try for at least three loops, and possibly the 50K this weekend. Mentioned it and nothing more. Then Jenny lets out her secret in her blog...she's going for three loops and probably 50K. I'm still going for two loops, but IF I feel good on loop two, I will go for three. And IF I go three, it's for darn sure I'm knocking off the 2.2 mile out and back for 50K. I'm not going to get that close and not do it. I won't know till I'm out there. You won't know till I'm done. But it is on my mind...

Also, as for my proposed training plan for Eric, that was offered tongue-in-cheek. Eric has not agreed to it. It's just one of my many (and frequent) attempts to bug Eric and make him run with me. Now that he has a blog too, it gives me a whole new arena for teasing him. Truly though, we both appreciated the insight and advice of experienced ultra-runners, so keep it coming! The other thing is I know I am anal about times and paces and mileages. I have been since I started many years ago. I admitted it a couple of posts ago. The Garmin just gives me a little edge on it - so I can be even more obsessive. It's not necessarily a good thing, but it is the way I am.

I went out for five miles with Rick today - with an average pace of 11:49 and an average heart rate of 143. Not bad!

You're certainly trained for a 50k if you want to do it! : )

I run with a Garmin on the roads and I've sometimes thought of just rounding the results when recording my runs. But I figured there's always a margin of error, so why not keep in the tenths and hundredths. It all evens out in the end!

hmm, it'll be interesting to see what you choose to do...!

WOW a 50k, eh? That is muy impressivo!

Good job on your run! :) And isn't it fun harassing our men on blogs? I keep pushing Mike to start one, but a las - he would rather not.

I am familiar with FOMO. I have several things scheduled this year because of it. I am also familiar with time/mileage obsession (albeit borderline, for now) and as soon as I'm able to get out on the road with my new Garmin, I know exactly what will happen.
Hmmm, think the two are related? :)

I think the key is making sure you listen to your bod. Go at a pace that feels good and that you know you can continue through the third loop. As long as you are having fun and have no injuries screaming at you I say go for 50K! What else do you have to do that day? ;)

I just realized I have a critical case of FOMO that includes indiscriminately many things I can and cannot do that well. Some people I know call it "zest for life," but it's FOMO, it's FOMO.

FOMO has been described in last year's Trail Runner mag, and I am guilty of charge:) Go with the flow, see how you feel, don't put pressure yet no limits.
Say hi to Van!

I've got just the equivalent for FOMO: "kiasu".

Go on, Wiki it:

Good luck with the loops. I'm sure it will be great no matter how many you do.

You? Anal? Nooooooo! :-)

It's so nice of your husband to start a blog where you can tease him more. Is that kind of like invading a country so you don't have to fight terrorist here? LOL. I digress. Maybe his blog is a subtle attempt to provide you with an easy target!! The plot thickens! It's a conspiracy in the Maniac Famliy!!!

and if you do 50K I'm going back to the bottle, LOL. You know better than that! Good luck!!

Not bad at all!

I had to use my fingers to figure out how far 50K was. :-) You'll know when it's right to go for it.

As far as drinking on the run, I take a sip from the water bottle at every walk break. That's how I remember to drink.

Have fun whatever you decide to do.

AND, if you do two laps, finish feeling good, with your legs still fresh...that's pretty cool, too.

Have fun will travel! You have the ability and training to make it a 50k...once it gets late in the race and the miles have passed start using those mind tricks to break the course down it really works. Enjoy the run and good luck!

Hmmm. . . I wonder what your decision will be. Nice job keeping your HR low!

Great job on your televsion debut Michelle. I can't believe you were speaking extemporaneously. That sounds like a great program to be involved in.
