New Look, New Shoes and Beta

I took a page from Olga's post, and updated to Beta, plus changed the look a little. It wasn't too bad - although a little frustrating in some ways. I lost my clustermap and all the data I'd accumulated. I had to go back and find the header and sidebar pictures. The sidebar pics were easy to insert, but as far as I could tell I had to switch over to html to put in my header pic. I know just enough to mess things up, but I got it together after awhile. I like really simple blogs, so switched over to a plain template, then adjusted colors and fonts. The other thing I was sorry to see was that old comments lost the profile pics, and in some cases switched over to "anonymous". Now that the work is done, I like the changes.

It appears that we will be having a party at our house tomorrow morning at 5:15. So far, if everyone comes, I've got four people coming by for the hill run. Sonya and I logged eight miles this morning in the wind and occasional rain. I've been trying something new - Succeed caps. So far they are not bothering my stomach at all. I've used them on a five mile run and this morning - neither of which was long enough to tell if they are going to help me out with dehydration. That will come with this weekend's 16 miler. At this point, I just wanted to find out if I could tolerate them, and I thought that was best done on a short run. After all, if I'm going to be nauseous, I'd rather it was on an hour run instead of a three-plus hour run. As I said, they are not bothering me at all.

I also wore new shoes this morning. I have been wearing Asics 2110s, and of course, they've updated to 2120s. I wish they'd just leave the shoes alone! There were a few changes, but the one that bit me today was the narrower forefoot. I ended up with a lovely blister on the outside of the ball of my foot. My plan is to alternate them with my 2110s, so maybe the blister will heal and I'll be okay. It probably wasn't smart to wear them on an eight mile run the first day. I was a little surprised when my feet started hurting recently - that is a sign that I need new shoes, and I just bought my last pair in September. I mentioned to the shoe guy that they were only about three months old, but that I had worn them in three marathons. He said that would wear them out sooner - that the continuous wear of a marathon length run is harder on them than a series of shorter runs. What do you think? Is he right?

Your new page looks really good. Welcome to Blogger Beta. You may continue to find little bugs with the Beta version - especially trying to comment in non-beta blogs. Oh well, as with new changes, in blogs or shoes, there can be blisters in the beginning.

It get's my thumbs up Michelle! Time to haul out those running sandals! LOL. I've only owned one pair of shoes, so I have nothing to compare against, but I did go over 200 miles for the year tonight. To bad it was on the treadmill!

Hope the narrowed toe of the 2120's won't give you Barney Rubble toes again. The Beta Blog looks good! See you soon!

I like how your archive went down and doesn't take up space. I need to look into it.
You know, what I like about beta is easyness of inserting stuff, so I can change things around when get bored - and there are times I do get bored. I am not a very constant person with things. Only with people:)
What's up with you and blisters? Lets cut those toes out! And go have fun tomorrow with friends!

Blogger looks Good Michelle,

ya Olga had to rebuild somethings or cut and paste them from the original saved blog using HTML not everything gets moved over properly... but like Olga said overall a lot more user friendly...

The blog looks great. Have a great time on the hill run.

Personally I don't think the marathons would have a bigger effect on the shoes than a series of shorter runs for the same accumulated distance; then again, I don't know much about shoes.

hi- I am a long time runner, too - just ran the Quad Dipsea. I always had worn Brooks, but 2 years ago, switched to Montrail Hardrocks and LOVE them...just a thought...

I like your new look! I switched to beta but haven't played around with my template yet. I like the Succeed caps too. They are the only electrolytes I've tried but seem to work so no need to try anything else yet.

Like the new look too.

I have 4 pair of running shoes that I rotate. I find that I can get about 400-500 miles on a pair of shoes.

The new look looks good. :)

As for the shoes wearing out faster with more long runs, I guess there is some logic to that (though it never would have occured to me). If you're running and sweating and heating up shoes for a longer period of time and they don't have time to cool off and dry out as much like with short runs, I guess I could see how there would be greater breakdown. That said, I don't see how this could be an issue for the average runner as I don't think, even at peak training weeks, we log that many miles (as opposed to someone logging 80+ or something like that).

Nothing finer than a 5am running party. Sheesh. And, I really like the new look. I just switched over to the Beta version and things went smooth enough. I've been trying to post on your blog all day and for some reason I am now just able to get through. Wierdness.

I like your new site as well. In fact, in order to post, I have to upgrade mine as well.

The blog looks great. Interesting about the shoes. My feet were bothering me last night and those shoes have less than 200 miles on them, but I wore them in Chicago and JFK. Now you have me wondering!

FWIW on the Beta, I found it won't take my old Blogger login, I have to use my Google login, despite what it says.

shoes...I've found it is a certain number of miles and the shoe starts to break down. I really don't think the shoe can tell, though, if you ran one 16 miler or four 4 milers. shoes are good, but not smart :-)

Alright, I think I can finally comment now. Maybe you will have some extra time to switch me over to beta so I do not screw everything up. I hope the rain stops by Saturday.

I have not figured out how this thing with the shoes works. My old ones look just fine. My feet hurt all the time, new shoes, old shoes, neither here nor there. I wish I could buy a new pair of heels.

Nice clean look. I may have to finally make the switch to beta too.
