Recovery? Taper? Slacker?

I have a very hard time skipping a run. I struggle with the idea, going back and forth about it. I seldom do it - but I skipped yesterday. I was tired all week and I knew I was facing a 14 hour work day, (sometimes everything just ends up on the same day!) so I decided the extra sleep was worth it. I told myself that many runners would still be on a recovery cycle from the marathon 11 days ago, and many runners would be starting the taper for the marathon in 9 days. I slept in, woke up feeling good, got through my long day with energy, but had a persistant thought that I was a slacker. Maybe I should just say...Hello, My name is Michelle and I have a running problem.

Week thus far:
Monday: Pilates
Tuesday: 6 miles
Wednesday: 8 miles
Thursday: sleep and slacker
Friday: Pilates

On tap:
Saturday: 10 miles
Sunday: 5 hilly miles

And then, the taper on the way to marathon #3.

You've been running long enough that a missed workout isn't going to hurt.

(Or should that be "Hi I'm Piggy and I'm Michelle's buddy.")

Have a good running weekend!

Did you happen to hear Steve Runner's podcast on this very topic? Gives us all something to think about:)
(I think you're just fine!)

Oh, that's a good one! Slacker? Ha, ha... We already knew you had a running problem, but what a great problem it is to have! I'll trade you one of mine for yours :-)

Yeah, the mental side of all this is huge.

Your physical conditioning won't miss the run...perhaps will benefit from it. Plus life is bigger than just running. A 14 hour work day is a good reason to sleep a bit and pursue some excellence in that sphere as well.

You be fine, Michelle!

Sometimes you need to be a slacker...although you really aren't one! : ) Enjoy your taper! Seatlle will be fun. I wish I could be there!

I'm not sure one extra day off would qualify you as a slacker. HELLO, I've run 2 days this week for a whopping 10 miles.

And for some reason your post did not update for me on bloglines. I'll have to keep an eye on that. I don't want you to think I forgot about you.

I know the feeling. I wouldn't worry about it too much. Think of it as a well earned rest day. #3 is just around the corner, incredible!

Have a great week.

Do what your body tells you, NOT your schedule. You have the conditioning and strong will to complete marathon 3, a run at this point is not going to do much for you. Have fun till the next marathon!

Good way to listen to your body! One more run wouldn't make any difference at this point anyway. Rest, rest!
