Who's a Goofball?

Okay, just to be a total goofball, I wore my running sandals on the five mile trail run, in the pouring rain, on Sunday. It wasn't long till my feet were completely soaked. But that was kind of fun - I ran straight through the puddles and didn't care. And, the same thing happens when it rains that hard and I'm wearing shoes. I did get a new blister though - in the arch of my right foot. Not sure why - maybe wet socks. I need to get some Smartwool socks and try it again. My toes felt great. That is, until I kicked a good size rock with the right foot, and it popped up and landed on my bad toe! I actually swore out loud on that one. After I was done hopping up and down, I discovered it was bleeding. Didn't really matter though - we were about halfway out so I just kept going and it quit hurting after five minutes or so.

Then, I got a rock in the sandal on the way back that I actually had to stop to get out. Of course as I was bent over, balancing on one foot, in the middle of the trail, I could hear runners coming up behind me. It was Rob and another friend - but no worries, I got my sandal back on and was moving when they got to me. I did have to endure some trail trash talk though. Overall, I'm still calling the sandals good. They were very comfortable on the trail - good support, no real problem with "trail debris" - just the one rock during the whole 5 miles.

On a non-running note, I'm really enjoying my new job. Last week I visited all five of our preschools. It was fun watching different teachers in action and observing the variety in the classroom environments. I'm learning lots on the job, and have a lot more to come. Next week I'll be attending a two day series of workshops at one of the big local conventions for early educators, I've signed up for a four-week online class to learn how to teach online classes, and I have another all-day workshop in December that I'll be going to. I haven't learned this much new stuff in years - it's possible my brain might explode! I'm certainly not having any problem filling up my days.

Well, I've got to get to bed so I can get up at 4:45 and get an eight mile run in before work. I survived all last week on 6 hours a night, and I was awfully tired on the weekend. I'm thinking I might need to do better on the sleep part this week.

Thanks for checking in, and happy running!

Man, I thought I was one of the few that was suffering from sleep deprivation! I suppose running in those sandals is a little more challenging on the trails then the roads, eh? Due to more debris lying around?? Way to go on the job front! Learning new stuff keeps the mind sharp. Rock on...

Glad to hear that the job is going well. However, you're making it hard for me to come up with excuses for not running when you are getting about the same amount of sleep as I usually get and still getting up early in the morning to run. Maybe after multiple weeks and months with only 6 hours of sleep a night your body will start to wear down and you will be complaining about how tired you are and how much you need your precious sleep. At least that's what I am hoping so I can boost my ego again.

See ya tomorrow.

Sleep deprivation is a fancy trend here, including non-runners. Or may be it's a trend for adult's life? Bummer!

Take care of that blister.

I must say, at the rate your going, your love of footwear could get you a spot on Sex and the City. Oh, but wait... They took that off the air. Maybe they'll have to start one called "Running adn the Trails" featuring Ms. BackofthePack as the sultry, sexy star in sandals... The blister just makes it all sound so much more exotic.

Ouch - those sandals just don't seem comfortable to me. Are you going to be part of the crew for Rob and Eric (Autumn Leaves 50K)?

Your committment to running and your new job is impressive! I got 9-10 hours of sleep every night on my vacation. But it just made me more tired overall. I think I need to start running again.
