All Running, All the Time

This summer is flying by! The relay is Friday and we are pulling together all the little details; coolers, water jugs, first aid kits, flashlights and more. At the same time, Riley is getting ready to leave for Cross Country camp on Sunday. So we're working that list too. He's driving himself over, so we're getting new tires on his car today - that was the biggest item on his check list. We've still got to make a run to Costco to supply him with energy bars and Gatorade. I'm sure it'll all get done on time. Each team in the relay has to supply two volunteers - ours are Riley and his buddy. They will be course monitors for about five hours on Friday evening. The best part is that he'll be stationed right where I start my first leg! That's going to be fun.

Eric and I have our race calendar booked through October 1st and Riley has started XC practice. In addition, I'm crewing for Eric and possibly Rob (if they decide to stay together) for the WR50 next weekend. In August, a couple of runners from the club and I are running an aid station at CCC100. It's pretty much all running, all the time, at our house this summer!

I planned this week as a rest week, mostly because of being up through the night for the relay. I think it's much better to go into it rested than already tired from high mileage. I'll be ending the week with about 23 miles (unless I can drag myself out of bed and to the beach for a run on Sunday. That didn't happen last year.) I'll push the mileage back up to 40+ range for the next couple of weeks, then have another low mile week before the half. I ran 6.7 miles yesterday morning, and ran the 6 mile hill run with Rob, Sonya and Jenny today. It was good to have Rob back with us because he gives us a needed push - we were spot on with 1:11:01. He says next week, we're coming in at 1:10. When he's not there we've varied from 1:12 to 1:18, so you know we need him to keep us from taking it easy! I've got to tell you what Rob did today - he was at our door to run with Eric at 4:30 am, they did the hill run backwards, then met us just outside our neighborhood. Eric headed home to get to work and Rob turned around and joined us. That gave him 12 miles by 6:30 am today! Oh, and that was on 2.5 hours of sleep. And he managed to keep his sense of humor and keep us laughing. What a guy!

It is great to hear that Rob can join you and Eric in the mornings for some of your runs. I don't know about 4:30 but it is impressive to have that amount of mileage done so early in the morning :)

What are you doing to crew the WR50? I don't know what my plans are for that weekend and the thought of going up there has been in my mind (which I haven't told Mark yet) :)

I hope you and the relay crew have fun! I look forward to seeing all the photos :)

You guys have so much fun! Rob is hardcore. Can't wait to see photos of the relay.

Thanks for your note on the shoes. I have slightly wider than normal feet with very narrow heals - ODD. I pronate slightly. I had surgery on my right foot several years ago which causes problems for me. I'll check out the men's asics. Thanks for the suggestion.

Thanks for the hardcore boost to my ego. Just to let you know I slept basically from 6 p.m. last night until 7 a.m. this morning. I did wake up for about an hour when Jessica got home, but I now feel human again. I can't wait until this weekend.
