I forgot...

Just how much I like teaching about Early Childhood Education. I had been dreading the start of class, putting off preparing, and hoping it would get cancelled. There were only nine students registered, which usually means cancellation, but they decided to let it go. (In the five summers I've taught this, class size has varied from 11 to 25). I actually gained three students last night, but two others didn't show, so I'm sitting at ten right now. Though it is only the first week, and there is typically a lot of change during that time. Anyway, I spent yesterday prepping, then went off to class last night. I was prepared, but still not looking forward to it. By the time class got rolling, I was in to it. I had promised a break about 6:10, but I was lecturing away, and by the next time I glanced at the clock it was 6:35! I was thrilled to get a lively discussion going on the first night, which bodes well for the rest of the quarter. There's nothing worse than a class where nobody will talk. I think maybe I was dragging my feet because it's a night class, and I always hate being away from the guys that much, especially on nice summer evenings, plus I was just plain feeling lazy and wanted the summer off. The good news is now I've got my teaching mojo back and am looking forward to going to class again!

I ran this morning - 8.1 miles, 1:36:42. I've been carrying a water bottle during my last three runs - one of the hand held kind - and using gu during the longer ones. I'm trying to get used to everything for the half in August. I decided this morning that I'm going to have to water the Gatorade down a bit - between it and the gu I had a burning tummy. I'm still on stomach medication, but it has to be taken a half hour before eating, so I don't usually get it in before the early morning runs. I may have to get up earlier to take it, then maybe the gu and gatorade won't bother me so much. Energy-wise they have really helped, especially during our current heat-wave. I plan to run again tonight after Eric gets home from work, probably 4-5 miles. Tomorrow is the hill run with Rob and Sonya, and I'm thinking about extending it to 8 miles. Then a couple of five-milers on Thursday, five on Saturday, and, weather permitting, an 8 mile hike on Sunday. I'll tell you more about the hike later this week. I'm upping the mileage mid-week since I won't get a long one in on the weekend but, believe me, the hike will make up for it!

And to end, I got tagged by Robb Runner. Here goes:

4 jobs I've had:

  • Carhop at the Beach Boy Drive-in (no skates)
  • Assistant Janitor at a Catholic grade school (Eric was the janitor)
  • Dispatcher for Campus Police in college
  • Programmer/Analyst (it was the 80s, think COBOL)
4 movies I watch over and over:
  • The Lord of the Rings Trilogy (if over and over means three times)
  • That's it, I don't really watch many more than once.

4 Places I have lived:

  • Ferndale, Washington
  • Bellingham, Washington
  • Rifle, Colorado
  • Spokane, Washington

4 TV shows I watch:

  • Beauty and the Geek (we watched this season, first time)
  • American Idol
  • That's it, don't watch much TV

4 Places I've been on Vacation:

  • The Grand Tetons
  • Montana
  • Boston
  • Oregon Coast

4 Websites I visit everyday:

4 Favorite Foods:

  • chocolate
  • french fries
  • multi-grain tortilla with peanut butter
  • oatmeal chocolate-chip cookies

4 Places I'd rather be right now:

  • sitting at Starbucks with the running club
  • on vacation
  • visiting a friend
  • out to lunch

4 Favorite Bands/Singers:

  • I know this is strange, but I don't really listen to music. I don't get the whole ipod thing at all. If I have to listen to something (that is the guys want to and we are in the car), I'll pick: something country, or something old, or something from Windham Hill cd's.

4 Bloggers I'll tag:

Whew! That was quite a responsibility. Thanks for tagging me, Robb!

You did soooo well! Good job Michelle. Thanks for putting up with me. Hmmm. I wonder what Thomas will say...oh, and Donald! I may be flogged and run up the flag pole for passing this along!

I used to teach college students and know what you mean about the dynamics when nobody wants to talk. But I find once everyone's comfortable, they tend to open up. Either that or I'll intentionally throw out provocative statements. Sounds like you've got a good group from the get-go...one likely to expand as word spreads. Good luck.

Is your magic number 8 this week?

Just want you to know that I've been watching your mileage increase and am now seriously considering having my gall bladder removed.

Come on, Michelle. You must be fibbing. Where's tofu in the list of favorite foods?

Nice job on the run! I'm not sure if I am experienced enough to hand out advice like this, but my experience is that energy gels go down much easier with water instead of Gatorade. Sometimes when I mix Gu and Gatorade too closely together, I have some indigestion.
