Good-bye Bettina

About eight months ago, I got an email from Bettina - a young lady from Germany that was coming to our area for a six month exchange student visit in the area. She was looking for a running club to join. We were very excited waiting for her to arrive - she came out for a run the second day she was here. She fit right in, and joined us at runs and races and other events. Lori made a special effort to get Bettina to new places, and eventually, when she needed a new host family, invited her into her home. Well, long story short, today was our last run with Bettina and our farewell party. She heads back to Germany this week. Just for fun, we decided to have a Retro Party. I'll only be posting a picture of Eric and I, since I didn't ask anyone else for permission - but I think you have to agree, Eric is adorable in his leisure suit and puka shells! I'm sure all you can all see why I married him.

Bettina - we've loved having you here! Your excitement and joy in our beautiful area reminded us how lucky we are to live here. I loved hearing about the things you found different and interesting, and the differences between here and Germany. I'm sure there were times that you thought we were all nuts and wondered how you got hooked up with us! I'm going to miss you at Starbucks and at races. Get that blog started, and we'll see each other again at a race in Europe somewhere! Thanks for giving us six months of your life...

Exchange students are wonderful, aren't they? I've hosted students from Korea and Japan and wouldn't trade it for anything.

Cute photo, by the way!
