Happy Valentines Day!

I rolled out of bed at five this morning and thought it might be a tough day. I had a killer headache. I decided to run anyway, because you know, sometimes it actually gets rid of the headache. I headed out into a beautiful, cold, clear morning. I ran into Eric about 3/4 of a mile out and got a Valentines kiss in the dark, on the side of the road. Sweet! Things were already looking up - I mean who wouldn't love a kiss from a sweaty, heavy-breathing runner? I finished my run - about 4.2 miles, took me 51:28. Not my best run, but okay. Felt so-so during the whole thing.

I came in the house to find two beautiful packages waiting for me. Now, Eric usually gets me Godiva chocolates on Valentines, or Dove chocolates. I absolutely love chocolate. I can probably put away more chocolate in a day than anyone. I wondered what would happen today, since I'm on a bland diet till my medical mystery is solved - no chocolate for me. I've been eating a lot of gummy bears, so I thought maybe some gummy hearts...but what I got instead was a beautiful set of Brighton jewelry - bracelet, necklace and earrings. I love them! First, a kiss in the dark, then jewelry. Even though I still have that headache, the day's going good and it's only 6:30 am.

I had to teach a parenting class at preschool this morning. Even though I've eaten, napped and had a couple of ibuprofin, I've still got a headache. I wander into the church where our school is located and am heading down the hall to set up my room - I hear a little voice "Teacher Michelle, Teacher Michelle!" There's Olivia, three years old and she's holding out a Valentine for me. Of course when I thank her, she runs to her Mom and hides her head, but she's got a huge grin, so I know she's excited. Here's her Valentine to me:

Okay, now who can resist being someone's "Ponyrific Pal"? By this point in the day, headache aside, I'm feeling pretty good about life.

The room where I teach the Parenting classes is always cold - I crank the little wall heater all the way over, but it's a big room and it never warms up. (Actually, one time it did get warm - when I forgot to turn the heater off when I left. The next day when I went in, the room was toasty.) By the end of the two hour class, I'm freezing, my headache is worse and I'm feeling sick.

But still...it's been a good day. I'm home now, I've eaten, forced down a zipfizz (which I've been avoiding the last couple of weeks, it's a little hard on the tummy), a couple more ibuprofin. Maybe I'll take nap #2 and see if I can shake it. If not, I guess I'll scrap that second run I planned - maybe just walk the dog instead. I'll try to take my own advice and cut myself some slack. The relay isn't till April 23rd, and I know if I don't pick up the two-a-days, I can still gut it out. If all the health problems I've had haven't taught me anything else, at least they've taught me that I can push out a run no matter how bad I feel. I'm trying to remind myself that I'm not in top form right now health-wise and that it's okay to miss the second run. How come we're all so tough on ourselves? Does it come with being a runner?

Anyway, it's only mid-afternoon, and I have had a great day. A kiss in the dark, jewelry and a ponyrific pal!

Now I went and ate a HUGE piece of chocolate! ANd no, it wasn't a gift (we don't do Valentines), it was Oleg's stash for climbing:)

I am glad Eric got the message I wonder about Patch though.

Thanks for the thoughts. I went to my 1 o'clock class that is for my education minor. I figured my professor is one of the ones who teaches the education classes and is also one of the ones who does the interviews to get into the program so I better cover my basis.

Thanks for stopping by the other day and for the kind words. A Valentines kiss in the dark and jewelry. Eric is a thoughtful guy. I don't know why we are so tough on ourselves. That's a question that should be given some thought.
