Sounds like a very fulfilling weekend in the household.

I sometimes wonder about the future of volunteers too. High school kids here do volunteer work, but often only because it's a requirement to get into a UC school. I think it's easier to relate to the need when you come from a family that was forced into dire circumstances. I'm glad the spirit of giving is alive and well where you live.Annehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04377440606704745517noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-22162202.post-43989909876887457282008-03-24T09:32:00.000-07:002008-03-24T09:32:00.000-07:00Congratulations to your Whole Family!!Good to have...Congratulations to your Whole Family!!
Good to have some soap box once in a while.

Happy successful recovery and resume.Sunshinehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12381269071684742007noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-22162202.post-7456342240304219062008-03-24T08:10:00.000-07:002008-03-24T08:10:00.000-07:00Your soap box topic is very good... I've had a similar conversation with my dad (when I was in college he used to take me out to breakfast on Saturday - every weekend, a pancake feed at a different lodge; Elks, Lions, etc.).

I struggle with the fact that I am the ONLY one in my age group that volunteers at the museum where the kiddos and I do living history/nature walks. Most are all retired folk, a relatively large number of teens (in the summer - most seeking only to cushion their college app). The living history depart. struggles to portray a realistic picture of life in 1880 with the volunteer base they have. I don't feel they do enough to draw in new, younger volunteers.

Homeschooling certainly has its advantages - my kids love volunteering and though they are young yet... they get it! :)

:DMs Evahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05070039626057590271noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-22162202.post-78960926356042161762008-03-24T07:49:00.000-07:002008-03-24T07:49:00.000-07:00Glad you had a good week!Glad you had a good week!Sarahhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10790953201589664954noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-22162202.post-44577725840255160892008-03-23T21:30:00.000-07:002008-03-23T21:30:00.000-07:00Happy Easter! The rest will do you good! The issue of community service, of giving back, of giving to those in need is huge.

Most kids will get this as a model from adults they respect...it is more "caught than taught"...and we had best be making it catchable.

Good for you and Eric.
